Electricity supply was disrupted for Malé and Hulhumalé region at approximately 9:20am on Saturday. The State Electric Company (STELCO) said a “technical issue” caused the interruption and that teams are working to restore power, apologising for the inconvenience.
STELCO did not disclose the precise cause or the number of customers affected at the time of publication. Residents can report faults via the utility’s emergency hotline (104) or contact centre (1545).
Today’s outage follows a series of significant supply disruptions in the capital region in recent months, including a capital-wide blackout on June 1 that prompted an urgent government response while engineers worked to stabilise the grid.
This story will be updated as STELCO releases further details.
