In a significant stride towards nationwide financial inclusion, Bank of Maldives (BML) has successfully extended its Self-Service Banking ATM network to encompass all inhabited islands within Noonu Atoll. This expansion was commemorated with inauguration ceremonies held on May 14, 2025, across seven islands: Henbadhoo, Landhoo, Kudafari, Maalhendhoo, Lhohi, Magoodhoo, and Fohdhoo.
This development is a part of BML’s ambitious “Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM” initiative, which aims to install ATMs in every inhabited island of the Maldives by the end of 2025. The project was officially launched in November 2024, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurating the initiative at the President’s Office.
Mohamed Shareef, CEO and Managing Director of BML, emphasized the bank’s commitment to enhancing financial accessibility:
“With the establishment of ATMs across seven islands in Noonu Atoll under our ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ initiative, we are proud to mark yet another remarkable achievement in our efforts to expand access to banking across the country. This is a proud moment not just for the Bank, but for the communities of Noonu Atoll, as we continue to bring banking closer to customers and enable easier access to financial services wherever they live.”
Prior to this expansion, Noonu Atoll had a Self-Service Banking Centre in Kendhikulhudhoo and branch services in Manadhoo, Velidhoo, and Holhudhoo. The addition of these seven ATMs ensures that residents across all inhabited islands in the atoll now have 24/7 access to essential banking services, including cash withdrawals, deposits, and fund transfers.
This milestone in Noonu Atoll is part of BML’s broader strategy to enhance its nationwide presence. As of May 2025, the bank operates 39 branches across all 20 atolls, 114 Self-Service Banking Centres, and 172 ATMs. Additionally, BML offers comprehensive Agent Banking Services and advanced Digital Banking solutions, reinforcing its position as the Maldives’ leading financial institution.
Looking ahead, BML remains steadfast in its mission to provide accessible banking services to every Maldivian island, aligning with its goal to complete the nationwide ATM installation by the end of 2025.
