Announcing the achievement, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu hailed the election as recognition of the Maldives’ proven track record in advancing human rights, particularly for Small Island Developing States (SIDS). He stressed that the appointment reaffirms the country’s unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and human dignity.

For decades, the Maldives has played a proactive role in the Human Rights Council, advocating for vulnerable nations and amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. As Vice-President, the country will now help shape critical decisions within the Council, further positioning itself as a champion of inclusivity and fairness in international governance.
