In a significant move towards enhancing transparency and collaboration, the Maldives Police Service hosted the inaugural ‘Police-Media Reception 2025’ at the Iskandharu Building in Male’ on May 20. The event, initiated by Acting Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, marked a renewed commitment to fostering a cooperative relationship between law enforcement and the media.
The reception, held in conjunction with World Press Freedom Day, brought together key figures from the police force, including Deputy Commissioner Farhad Fikry, executive officers, and representatives from the Maldives Journalists Association (MJA) and various media outlets.

In his address, Acting Commissioner Naveen emphasized the importance of mutual respect and open communication between the police and journalists. He expressed hope that this initiative would pave the way for a safer environment and stronger cooperation, stating, “This is a new initiative aimed at collaborating with the press for responsible dissemination of information, national stability, and greater public awareness.”
Ahmed Naif, Secretary of the MJA, acknowledged the police’s efforts to engage with the media and highlighted the need for timely information sharing. He called for continued efforts to improve the relationship between the police and journalists, ensuring that the public receives accurate and transparent information.
As a gesture of appreciation, commemorative tokens were presented to each media outlet on behalf of the police. The event concluded with a shared commitment to uphold press freedom and work collaboratively towards a more informed and secure society.
