In a decisive move to restructure internal operations and address growing public demands for reform, the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has announced a significant reshuffle across nine key departments. The changes come in the wake of Commissioner Ali Shujau’s resignation, which followed mounting pressure over transparency concerns, particularly in relation to the controversial Yumnu Rasheed case.
The leadership appointments, effective immediately, impact several high-priority divisions. According to MPS, these changes are aimed at strengthening administrative functions and improving the overall quality of policing services in the country.
New Department Heads Appointed:
Economic Crime Investigation: Superintendent of Police Abdullah Rasheed
Drug Enforcement Department: Superintendent of Police Ahmed Muslim
Gang Crime Investigation: Superintendent of Police Mohamed Sabah
Counter Narcotics Operations: Chief Inspector of Police Fathih Mohamed
Thilafushi Police Station: Superintendent of Police Rajni Shuaib
Traffic Police: Chief Inspector of Police Ibrahim Imran
Specialist Tactical Response: Superintendent of Police Ishaag Adamfulhu
Custodial Standards and Development: Chief Inspector of Police Mohamed Shaheem
Protective Security: Superintendent of Police Nahid Hussain
These sweeping changes follow broader strategic priorities laid out in the MPS Strategic Plan 2024–2028, which focuses on crime-oriented policing, modernization, and public accountability. The initiative also aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s national security agenda, including the establishment of police services on all inhabited islands.
While these appointments mark a fresh chapter for the MPS, public eyes will remain on how effectively the new leadership can rebuild trust, deliver justice, and tackle organized crime across the country.
