Agu Magu Portal: A Step Towards Price Transparency for Essential Goods During Ramadan

By Hussain Shinan Published March 1, 2025

A new platform aimed at helping the public track market prices for essential goods during Ramadan has been officially launched by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. The Agu Magu Portal, launched by Minister Mohamed Saeed, is designed to ensure transparency and promote affordable prices for household food items throughout the holy month.

The primary goal of the Agu Magu Portal is to provide the public with easy access to the lowest available prices for key products. By consolidating market information in one place, the portal will allow consumers to compare prices and make more informed purchasing decisions.

Minister Saeed explained that the portal will display prices based on data collected by Ministry inspectors, who regularly visit shops and markets. “The purpose of this application is to enhance accessibility to essential food items, ensuring that they remain affordable for the public during Ramadan,” said the Minister during the launch event.

The platform will feature prices for essential food items as defined by both international standards and local authorities. For now, the portal will provide price information for goods available in Malé and Hulhumale’, with plans to expand to include the prices of goods across the atolls in the future.

One of the key features of the Agu Magu Portal is that it will also allow traders to post their own prices, which the Ministry will monitor. “This is an important step in creating a transparent market environment,” Minister Saeed added. “Our inspectors will continue visiting stores, verifying prices, and ensuring that they match the information posted on the portal.”

This initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain stable food prices during Ramadan, providing a convenient tool for the public to ensure they are paying fair prices for essential goods. The Economic Ministry hopes that the Agu Magu Portal will not only empower consumers but also encourage competition among traders to offer the best prices.

With the portal now live, consumers can begin checking the listed prices, while the Ministry continues to work towards expanding the platform to include more regions across the Maldives.
