Air India has launched daily direct services connecting Mumbai and Delhi to Malé, significantly boosting travel convenience for Indian tourists and business travelers heading to the Maldives.
The new routes strengthen air connectivity between India and the Maldives, a destination long favored by Indian travelers for its turquoise lagoons, coral reefs, and luxury resorts. By eliminating layovers, the services reduce travel time and provide passengers with seamless access to the Indian Ocean nation.
From Delhi, Flight AI 2273 departs at 10:15 AM, reaching Malé at 1:50 PM after a four-hour journey. The return service, AI 2274, departs Malé at 2:50 PM and lands in Delhi at 7:25 PM. Meanwhile, passengers flying from Mumbai can board Flight AI 2271 at 9:30 AM, arriving in Malé at 11:50 AM. The return leg, AI 2272, leaves Malé at 12:50 PM and touches down in Mumbai at 4:05 PM, with a flight time of just over three hours.
The expansion comes at a time when the Maldives is seeing a surge in Indian tourist arrivals. India has consistently ranked as the Maldives’ top source market in recent years, driven by its proximity and strong demand for premium holiday experiences. The new services are expected to further strengthen this trend, offering Indian travelers greater flexibility for short getaways as well as extended stays.
Beyond leisure travel, the enhanced connectivity also opens avenues for business exchanges and trade opportunities. With growing investments in tourism, hospitality, and infrastructure, both nations stand to benefit from smoother travel links.
Air India’s decision underscores the growing strategic and commercial importance of the Maldives within South Asia’s travel corridor, positioning the airline to capture rising demand in one of the region’s most competitive aviation markets.
