We extend our sincere apologies to the management, staff, and stakeholders of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) regarding our recent article covering the company’s 2024 audit report.
Our initial coverage portrayed the audit findings in an overly negative and critical manner, which may have misrepresented the actual context and efforts of MWSC’s leadership. We acknowledge that the audit report did not explicitly accuse the Managing Director of mismanagement or wrongdoing, nor did it state that the company’s operations are at immediate risk.
We deeply regret any confusion or reputational harm this may have caused to MWSC and its leadership. The company continues to play a vital role in providing essential services to the public, and we recognize the challenges involved in managing large-scale utility operations.
Moving forward, we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and responsibility in our reporting. We have taken immediate steps to review our editorial processes to ensure that such misinterpretations do not occur in the future.
Once again, we apologize for any distress caused and reaffirm our respect for MWSC’s continued contributions to the Maldives.
