BML Fund Invests in Education with New SEN Facility in Th. Veymandoo

By Ahmed Ashraf Published August 23, 2025

Bank of Maldives (BML) has expanded its support for inclusive education with the opening of a sensory and vocational classroom for Special Education Needs (SEN) students at Th. Veymandoo School. The initiative, funded under the BML Fund, was implemented in partnership with the Veymandoo Youth Association.

The new classroom is designed to foster skill development, enhance students’ confidence, and equip them for active participation in society. In addition to meeting core educational needs, Veymandoo School plans to introduce training in essential life skills, including cooking and sewing, to further empower students with special learning requirements.

Speaking at the inauguration, Veymandoo Youth Association President Ahmed Shaugath highlighted the community-driven effort behind the project. “The purpose of this initiative is to provide a dedicated space for SEN students where they can engage in various learning activities. We are grateful to BML for making this possible and extend thanks to the school, our association members, and all those who contributed to completing the project successfully” he said.

This classroom marks the third such project supported by BML this year. Earlier, the Bank funded the development of SEN classrooms at Salahuddin School and Hiriya School in Hulhumalé, benefiting more than 200 students. Over the past five years, BML has donated essential SEN equipment to 40 schools across the Maldives, significantly improving access to tailored learning environments for children with diverse needs.

With these investments, BML continues to strengthen its role as a key partner in education and community development, reinforcing its commitment to creating inclusive opportunities nationwide.
