By Ahmed Ashraf Published August 12, 2025

Bank of Maldives (BML) Islamic has been confirmed as the Platinum Partner for the upcoming International Zakat Conference, hosted by Maldives Zakat House, set to take place on August 23.

Themed “Zakat for Social Justice and Digital Inclusion: Advancing Social Welfare through Innovation”, the event will bring together prominent scholars, zakat practitioners, policymakers, and community leaders to explore strategies for enhancing zakat administration as a driver of social well-being and economic stability in the Maldives.

The conference aims to establish a more sustainable zakat system in the country, leveraging innovation to improve transparency, efficiency, and accessibility in line with evolving socio-economic needs.

As the Maldives’ largest Islamic bank, BML Islamic plays a key role in advancing Shariah-compliant financial services, offering a full suite of products including accounts, cards, and financing solutions. The bank has introduced several firsts to the Maldivian market, such as Islamic overdraft financing, cash financing, hybrid home financing, Islamic debit cards, and remains the only institution to issue Islamic credit cards.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of BML Islamic’s services. To commemorate the milestone, the bank has launched a special promotion offering 10 Hajj trips to customers. The offer is open to both existing and new clients, including those using financing facilities, salary transfer services, General Investment Accounts, or Islamic credit cards.

The International Zakat Conference is expected to serve as a key platform for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovation in zakat management, aligning with broader efforts to strengthen social welfare frameworks in the Maldives.
