Brace for Downpours: White Alert Stretches Across Northern and Central Atolls

By Ahmed Ashraf Published June 28, 2025

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a white alert covering regions from Haa Alifu Atoll to Alif Dhaal Atoll, warning of severe weather conditions today.

According to the advisory, heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching up to 40 miles per hour are expected between 10:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Local authorities urge residents and travelers in the affected areas to exercise caution, especially at sea and in low-lying islands prone to flooding.

The alert comes as the southwest monsoon continues to bring unsettled weather across the archipelago. The MET Office advises the public to stay updated through official channels and avoid unnecessary travel during the alert period.
