Central Maldives Braces for Strong Winds and Stormy Weather — Met Office Declares White Alert

By Ahmed Ashraf Published October 10, 2025

The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert for the central atolls — stretching from Baa Atoll to Laamu Atoll — warning residents and visitors of deteriorating weather between 08:30 AM and 13:30 PM today.

According to the MET Office, the alert period is expected to bring heavy rainfall paired with thunderstorms, along with wind gusts potentially reaching 40 miles per hour over cloudy zones.

The agency emphasized that these conditions could pose risks to maritime operations, coastal safety, and land-based activities. Communities in affected regions are strongly urged to take precautions, limit nonessential travel, and stay updated via official channels.

This alert signals a continuation of unsettled weather patterns affecting the Maldives, particularly during the monsoon transition period. Given the potential for sudden downpours and gusty winds, the MET Office further advises that small boats remain docked, and island residents secure loose objects and maintain vigilance.

Residents in the central atolls — including Baa, Lhaviyani, Noonu, Raa, Shaviyani, and all the way to Laamu — should monitor official updates and avoid venturing into open sea during the advisory window.
