In a heartfelt initiative during Ramadan, Dhiraagu, the Maldives’ leading telecommunications provider, successfully raised MVR 230,380 to support children under state care. The funds were officially handed over to the Minister of Social and Family Development, Dr. Aishath Shiham, by Dhiraagu’s CEO and Managing Director, Mr. Ismail Rasheed, in a ceremony that underscored the company’s commitment to social responsibility.
The “Donate on DhiraaguApp” campaign, launched during the holy month, enabled customers to contribute directly to state care facilities, including Fiyavathi, Amaan Veshi, and Amaan Hiyaa. These institutions provide shelter and support to children without parental care across the Maldives. Dhiraagu itself pledged MVR 150,000, with the remaining amount coming from generous public donations facilitated through the app.
The collected funds are earmarked for several key programs identified by the Ministry of Social and Family Development. These include enhancing study rooms with digital tools, installing turf in play areas, implementing skill development initiatives, and launching job readiness programs for youths aged 16 and above. Such initiatives aim to foster a nurturing environment that promotes education and personal growth for children in state care.
Beyond financial contributions, Dhiraagu has consistently supported these facilities by providing high-speed internet services. This connectivity ensures that children in shelters like Amaan Veshi and Amaan Hiyaa have access to digital learning resources, bridging the educational gap and promoting digital literacy.
“Supporting children and young people is a key focus area under Dhiraagu’s CSR programme,” stated Mr. Rasheed. “With this renewed commitment, we hope to empower children under state care to access digital learning tools and bridge the digital divide.”
This initiative reflects Dhiraagu’s broader commitment to social inclusion and the well-being of vulnerable communities. By leveraging technology and community engagement, the company continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children across the Maldives.
