Eastern, Western Parking Restrictions Announced Ahead of Velana Airport’s New Terminal Opening

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 15 hours ago

In preparation for the highly anticipated opening ceremony of Velana International Airport’s new terminal on July 26, 2025, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced temporary parking restrictions at Hulhule.

According to MACL, starting from July 17, 2025, parking of four-wheeled vehicles will be prohibited in the Eastern Parking Zone. Vehicle owners and caretakers currently using this area have been advised to remove their vehicles before this date to avoid penalties.

Additionally, from 18:00 on July 17, parking will be completely restricted for all land vehicles in the Western Parking Zone. MACL has stated that any vehicles remaining after these deadlines will be cleared in cooperation with Maldives Police Service to ensure a smooth and secure setup for the event.

While the company has not yet announced when parking will resume in these zones, it has assured the public that further updates will be shared in due course.

MACL has apologized for any inconvenience caused and urged the public to cooperate as the airport makes final preparations to welcome guests for the landmark terminal opening.

The new terminal, a major infrastructure milestone, is expected to significantly enhance passenger capacity and improve the overall travel experience at the country’s main international gateway.
