The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has announced the opening of a Book of Condolence in memory of its late Chairman, Mohamed Umar Maniku (MU Maniku), a pioneering figure who also served as Chairman of Universal Enterprises Pvt Ltd, one of the country’s largest and most influential resort groups.
The condolence book will be open for signing from Sunday, 7 September 2025, to Sunday, 14 September 2025 (excluding Fridays), at the MATI office on the 4th Floor of Fasmeeru Building, Boduthakurufaanu Magu, Malé. Visiting hours are scheduled daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
MATI has extended an invitation to members, government officials, industry partners, and the public to pay their respects and leave written tributes honouring MU Maniku’s life and contributions.
Widely regarded as one of the founding architects of Maldivian tourism, MU Maniku’s vision and leadership transformed the Maldives into a globally celebrated luxury destination. Under his stewardship, Universal Resorts became a flagship hospitality group while MATI grew into the foremost voice of the tourism industry. His efforts not only shaped the growth of the country’s largest economic sector but also positioned the Maldives as a benchmark for sustainable island tourism worldwide.
The Book of Condolence offers industry colleagues and citizens alike a chance to reflect on MU Maniku’s enduring legacy and his decades of service to the nation.
