The Elections Commission has confirmed that the deadline for voter re registration for the upcoming April elections will expire at 3:00 pm today, urging eligible citizens to act immediately to safeguard their right to vote.
The closing window applies to the Local Council Elections, the Women’s Development Committee elections, and the public referendum on consolidating two major national polls. Officials stressed that re registration during this period is only necessary for voters who wish to cast their ballots at a location different from where they were registered for the 2024 Parliamentary Elections.
The Commission clarified that individuals who were previously registered to vote at resorts, industrial islands, correctional facilities, or overseas polling stations during the parliamentary vote will automatically have their registration reverted to their permanent residential addresses in the updated voters registry.
Voters intending to change their polling station must complete the process before the 3:00 pm deadline. The EC has called on the public to verify their current registration status without delay to avoid last minute complications.
Re registration can be completed online through the Commission’s official portal at form.elections.gov.mv or via My Portal at my.elections.gov.mv. Citizens may also confirm their assigned voting location by sending an SMS to 1414 in the format VR followed by a space and their national ID number.
With the April polls approaching, the Commission reiterated that timely re registration is essential to ensuring smooth participation in the democratic process.
