Commending the Maldives Autism Association, the First Lady praised its dedication to fostering an inclusive society. She lauded their initiatives in providing essential support systems and creating environments where individuals with autism can advocate for their rights.

Drawing attention to the global perspective, Madam Sajidha highlighted that, despite varying challenges, many individuals with autism lead successful lives. She encouraged recognizing each child’s potential and offering ample opportunities for growth.

The First Lady also emphasized the government’s commitment to social justice, noting policies aimed at providing employment opportunities for individuals with autism. During the ceremony, she honored long-serving employees of the association with commemorative plaques.

Established in 2010, the Maldives Autism Association has been instrumental in offering treatments and life skills training to children with autism, preparing them for school environments. Over the past 15 years, the association has served approximately 1,800 children, with 168 currently receiving services.

The event concluded with a renewed call for community engagement and support to ensure a more inclusive future for individuals with autism in the Maldives.
