First Lady Urges Women to Lead the Frontlines of National Security

By Ahmed Ashraf Published October 5, 2025

First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has reaffirmed her strong commitment to advancing women’s leadership in national security and law enforcement, emphasizing that women in uniform stand as both defenders of peace and symbols of limitless possibility.

Speaking at the opening of the Maldives Women in Policing Summit 2025 held at CROSSROADS Maldives on Saturday, the First Lady said women’s participation in uniformed bodies — including the Police, Defence Forces, Customs, and Immigration — plays a transformative role in shaping a safer and more inclusive society.

Held under the theme “Empowered Women: Safer Communities” the Summit gathered representatives from multiple security and justice institutions to explore strategies for empowering women in the nation’s protection and law enforcement sectors.

Highlighting global challenges such as cybercrime, human trafficking, climate-related disasters, and violent extremism, the First Lady underscored that women’s perspectives and empathy are essential in tackling these emerging threats. She encouraged young women to see policing and security professions as pathways where they can apply their unique strengths for the nation’s progress.

Sajidha Mohamed also emphasized that modern policing must combine law enforcement with empathy, dialogue, and prevention. Victims — particularly women and children — are more likely to seek help, she said, when they see themselves represented among those who serve. She urged institutions to build workplaces where women are treated as equals, not exceptions, and reminded that every woman in uniform “reshapes the meaning of justice itself.”

During the ceremony, the First Lady unveiled the official Maldives Women in Police Challenge Coin, marking a milestone in recognizing women’s growing contributions to national security.

The event reaffirmed President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration’s broader vision of gender-inclusive national development, ensuring women continue to lead from the frontlines of peace and security in the Maldives.
