Frame the Wild: Ministry Announces Photography Contest for World Wildlife Day

By Hussain Shinan Published March 23, 2025

The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has opened submissions for a national photography competition in celebration of World Wildlife Day 2025, inviting photographers across the Maldives to capture the country’s rich biodiversity and natural landscapes.

Announced this week, the competition aims to raise public awareness of the Maldives’ diverse ecosystems and promote the conservation of its unique wildlife. The contest is open to all, with entries accepted until 12:00 p.m. on April 3, 2025.

Participants can submit their work under three distinct categories: Wildlife, Aerial (drone photography), and Habitats. Submissions will be evaluated based on technical quality, composition, visual impact, adherence to ethical guidelines, and how well they reflect the contest’s conservation-focused theme.

To encourage participation and reward creativity, the Ministry will present cameras and drones to the winners of each category. In addition, the top 10 photographs from each category will be featured in a digital e-booklet and showcased in a public exhibition.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of ethical photography practices, urging participants to ensure that their work causes no harm or disturbance to animals or natural habitats.

Entries should be emailed to [email protected] before the submission deadline.

World Wildlife Day, observed globally on March 3 each year, highlights the importance of preserving endangered species and safeguarding natural ecosystems. This year’s theme centers on fostering a deeper connection between communities and nature through the power of visual storytelling
