Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel formally presented the exequatur to Ms. Fathimath Zuraig Mohamed, marking her official assumption of duties as Honorary Consul of France in the Maldives at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Malé.
Ms. Zuraig Mohamed’s appointment reflects France’s intent to strengthen diplomatic and people-to-people ties with the Maldives, especially in areas like tourism, cultural exchange, and legal cooperation.

Before her consular role, Ms. Zuraig Mohamed built a professional career in law and corporate governance. She served as an attorney with Premier Chambers LLP, one of the Maldives’ leading legal firms, and held responsibilities that included legal advisory and company secretarial work from 2019 to 2022.
Her legal background positions her to support French interests as well as provide consular assistance to French nationals living in or visiting the Maldives. The Honorary Consulate of France in Malé is headquartered at H.Aagadhage, Boduthakurufaanu Magu, where she will oversee services including emergency assistance and liaison with local authorities on bilateral initiatives.

In remarks following the exequatur presentation, Minister Dr. Khaleel congratulated Ms. Zuraig Mohamed and reaffirmed the Maldives government’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with France. Ms. Zuraig Mohamed expressed gratitude for the trust placed in her and pledged diligent service to French citizens while advancing cooperative efforts between the two countries.
Her public engagements already include participation in cultural and educational events, such as award ceremonies connected to French language certifications, highlighting her active role in fostering cultural diplomacy.
Honorary Consuls serve as key links between their appointing governments and the host country, combining diplomatic, cultural, and consular functions without being career diplomats. Ms. Zuraig Mohamed’s legal expertise and community involvement bring added depth to this role at a time of expanding Maldives-France relations.
