The Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB) has officially announced the appointment of Mr. Mujthaba Latheef, Deputy Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), as a new Executive Member of the company’s Board of Directors.
Hailing from Ga. Dhaandhoo, Mr. Mujthaba Latheef has long been recognized as one of MACL’s most experienced and dynamic leaders. His appointment by the PCB underscores the government’s continued confidence in his proven leadership and deep understanding of airport operations and commercial management.
Mr. Mujthaba currently serves as Deputy Managing Director of MACL, a position he has held since early 2024. Over the years, he has played a pivotal role in shaping MACL’s commercial strategy and operational performance — overseeing major initiatives such as optimizing terminal management, expanding concession revenues, and elevating service quality across Velana International Airport (VIA) and regional airports under MACL’s management.
With his induction to the Board, Mujthaba Latheef will now contribute directly to the company’s highest decision-making platform, guiding strategic policies and long-term corporate direction. His extensive operational insight and commercial acumen are expected to strengthen MACL’s governance framework and enhance alignment between the executive leadership and board-level strategy.
The appointment also comes at a crucial moment for MACL, which is in the midst of implementing several large-scale infrastructure projects — including the new international terminal at Velana International Airport and the development of Hanimaadhoo International Airport under India’s line of credit. As the Maldives continues to position itself as a premier aviation and tourism hub in the Indian Ocean, experienced leadership at MACL remains central to national growth.
Mr. Mujthaba’s elevation to the Board represents not only professional recognition but also the broader success of homegrown talent within Maldives’ state-owned enterprises. Known for his integrity, diligence, and results-driven approach, he has earned widespread respect across the aviation sector.
By appointing Mujthaba Latheef as an Executive Member, the PCB and MACL have reinforced a leadership model that values both experience and innovation — ensuring that the company continues to grow under capable and visionary guidance.
