Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has held discussions with the Fuvahmulah City Council as part of its efforts to upgrade regional airport infrastructure and strengthen local connectivity. The meeting was attended by MACL Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, along with senior executives of the company.
During the session, MACL briefed council members on its current priorities, placing particular focus on Fuvahmulah Airport. Officials shared details of an ongoing study to assess the airport’s current condition and operational needs. The assessment aims to identify critical gaps and outline a framework for future investments that will ensure the airport meets both domestic and international aviation standards.
Council representatives were updated on MACL’s plans to procure modern equipment and resources to improve airport facilities. According to the company, these upgrades will be essential for enhancing safety, efficiency, and passenger experience while supporting the island’s economic growth.
Fuvahmulah, as the Maldives’ only single-island atoll, holds strategic importance for regional trade and tourism. Strengthening its airport is expected to boost accessibility, enabling smoother travel for residents and visitors while creating opportunities for businesses in the atoll.
The meeting reflects MACL’s broader strategy to collaborate closely with local councils in shaping infrastructure development that aligns with community needs and national priorities. With major expansion projects already underway at Velana International Airport, the company is now extending its modernization drive to regional airports to ensure balanced growth across the country.
