The Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has confirmed that key handovers for the first batch of Gedhoruveriya housing towers will commence next week, marking a significant milestone in one of the largest government housing programmes currently underway.
According to FDC, the handover process will begin with five residential towers from the AMAN Udhares and AMAN Dhoadhi clusters during the second week of December. The rollout will continue in stages through January 2026, with all units expected to be distributed by the end of the next two months.
Phased Handover Schedule Announced
The corporation released a tentative handover schedule, noting that minor adjustments are possible depending on logistical readiness and ongoing utility verification.
Proposed timeline:
-
Second week of December: Udhares Towers 11, 12, 13, 15, 16
-
Week of 5 December: Dhoadhi Towers 1, 2, 3, 4, 12, 13, 14
-
Second week of January: Dhoadhi Towers 15, 16
-
Third week of January: Udhares Towers 5, 6
-
Fourth week of January: Udhares Towers 1, 2, 3, 4, 7
-
Week of 5 January: Udhares Towers 5, 10
-
Fifth week of January: Dhoadhi Towers 5–11
FDC stated that construction on all towers has been completed and most of the buildings are now undergoing final testing of utilities, including water, electricity, and waste management systems—steps required before keys can be officially issued.
The first handover under the programme took place on 28 September, when residents of Tower 14 received their units.
Government Rent Support in Place
In addition to confirming the timeline, officials highlighted that the government has implemented a rental relief mechanism to support beneficiaries. Under the announced subsidy framework, residents who make timely payments will be eligible for reduced monthly rent:
-
MVR 9,000 for three-bedroom apartments
-
MVR 7,000 for two-bedroom apartments
The Gedhoruveriya housing initiative forms a core part of the government’s broader pledge to expand affordable housing access for residents, particularly those living in Greater Malé.
