HDC Exposes MDP Government Fraud: MVR 200M Misused Under Past Administration

By Ahmed Ashraf Published October 2, 2025

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has pledged decisive legal action against parties implicated in large-scale fraud involving its land, property, and services between 2019 and 2023.

According to the corporation, irregularities amounting to approximately MVR 200 million were uncovered during this period. The reported violations include the theft of HDC property, misuse of corporate assets for personal gain, and the leasing and sale of land through unlawful and unauthorized means.

HDC confirmed that these cases are being continuously referred to investigative authorities to ensure a thorough inquiry. The corporation further stressed that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies to guarantee accountability and recover public assets.

This renewed focus on safeguarding state resources aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s policy of zero tolerance toward corruption and his firm commitment to uphold the rule of law. The administration has repeatedly emphasized that no individual or entity will be allowed to misuse public property, ensuring that the nation’s land and housing assets remain protected for the Maldivian people.
