Heart-Stopping Moment: Child Rescued from Fifth-Floor Window

By Ahmed Ashraf Published January 24, 2025

In a dramatic incident on Buruvi Magu in Henveiru, a young child with special needs was rescued from a fifth-floor apartment window, as captured in a viral video shared by MvCrisis. The footage shows the child perilously perched on the windowsill, legs dangling over the edge, while concerned bystanders shout from the street, urging the child to retreat indoors.

Approximately 50 seconds into the video, an individual inside the apartment swiftly pulls the child back to safety. It remains unclear whether this person was a resident or someone who entered upon noticing the danger.

The Maldives Police Service responded promptly to the scene around 20:50. Upon investigation, they discovered that the child has special needs and had ventured onto the windowsill while the mother was asleep. The mother, traumatized by the event, is currently receiving support from the Police Victim Support Unit, which is also attending to the child’s needs. In similar past incidents, authorities have treated such cases as negligence.

This event underscores the critical importance of vigilant supervision, especially for children with special needs, to prevent potential tragedies.
