Hulhumalé Comes Alive with Augmented Fun in ‘Fenkoe Hunt’

By Hussain Shinan Published May 14, 2025

An exciting treasure hunt is underway in Hulhumalé as Housing Development Corporation (HDC), in collaboration with Island Beverages Maldives (IBM), launched the interactive ‘Fenkoe Hunt’ as part of the ongoing MyHulhumalé’ Festival.

The game, which began on Monday, 12th May, is inspired by IBM’s new brand mascot Fenkoe and invites the public to explore Phase I and II of Hulhumalé in search of 35 hidden QR codes. Each code unlocks a virtual collectible with varying point values—Epic (20 points), Legendary (50 points), and Mythic (100 points)—as part of a live leaderboard challenge.

Participants can sign up using their mobile numbers, with real-time scores tracked throughout the event. At the end of the week, the top three scorers will be awarded cash prizes: MVR 7,000 for first place, MVR 4,000 for second, and MVR 2,000 for third.

Clues to QR code locations are accessible via a dynamic in-game map, which continues to reveal new sites each day. Registration is open through the HDC website and social media platforms, where users can scan a QR code to join the hunt.

Running until Saturday, 17th May, Fenkoe Hunt aims to be a fun and family-friendly activity, combining fitness, tech, and community engagement. Organizers say the initiative is a creative way to get people moving and exploring Hulhumalé, especially families and young people.

The MyHulhumalé’ Festival itself celebrates 21 years since the first settlement in Hulhumalé, marking more than two decades of growth and transformation into a modern, people-focused urban space. The festival features a range of activities including public exhibitions, cultural showcases, and interactive programs throughout the city.

With Fenkoe Hunt, HDC and IBM are adding a playful digital twist to this year’s festivities—bringing together innovation and celebration in one immersive experience.
