Hulhumalé Phase 3 land reclamation is approaching full completion, marking a major step forward in the Government’s strategy to ease long-standing housing pressures in the Greater Malé region.

According to the latest project update, 62 hectares have already been reclaimed, bringing overall progress to 98 percent completion, as large-scale dredging operations continue at pace under the leadership of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
High-Capacity Dredgers Driving Rapid Progress
Reclamation work is being carried out using two high-capacity trailing suction hopper dredgers:
- Prins der Nederlanden, capacity 22,000 CBM
- Oranje, capacity 22,000 CBM
These vessels are operating continuously on-site, ensuring the national priority project remains firmly on track toward final completion.

Work Officially Began on 10 November 2025
MACL commenced Phase 3 reclamation works on 10 November 2025, following renewed momentum to accelerate key urban development projects linked to housing and land allocation.
A Strategic National Development Push
Hulhumalé Phase 3 is widely viewed as one of the most consequential land expansion efforts in the capital region in recent years, directly supporting broader government plans to unlock new residential opportunities and strengthen long-term infrastructure development.
As reclamation nears completion, attention is now shifting toward the next stages, including land preparation, infrastructure rollout, and the eventual allocation of plots that will benefit thousands of Maldivian families.
