Immigration Detains Five Foreign Nationals for Operating Prostitution Network in Maldives

By Hussain Shinan Published January 28, 2025

In a crackdown on illegal activities, Maldives Immigration has detained five foreign nationals linked to a prostitution network operating in the country. The operation, conducted jointly with Maldives Police Service, uncovered the involvement of four women engaged in prostitution and a man who acted as their agent.

All five individuals are Vietnamese nationals. Immigration identified them as Van Hai Dinh, a 35-year-old male, and four females: Long Thi Huong (37), Thi Nhung Nguyen (35), Zas Ros Chau (40), and Thi Kien Luu (41).

Immigration authorities revealed that three of the women were working under valid visas, highlighting a potential abuse of the visa system to facilitate such activities.

Following the investigation, one individual was deported on January 17, with plans underway to deport the remaining detainees. Maldives Immigration emphasized its commitment to addressing such illegal activities and ensuring the country’s borders are not misused for exploitation.

This operation underscores the Maldives’ zero-tolerance stance on criminal networks, particularly those involving human trafficking and exploitation, and reflects strengthened collaboration between law enforcement agencies to uphold the nation’s security and social integrity.
