Three men from Fuvahmulah have been arrested and remanded for 15 days after violently assaulting an airport employee who tried to stop them from climbing over the fence of Fuvahmulah Airport in Gnaviyani Atoll.
According to the Maldives Police Service, the incident occurred around 4:05 a.m. on September 28, when a group attempted to trespass into the airport’s restricted area. The suspects — Hassan Humaam Mohamed of Gulkoazuge (Hoadhadu), Ibrahim Siman Ahmed of Zamhareeruge (Hoadhadu), and Bassam Ahmed of Shuhana (Funaadu) — all residents of Fuvahmulah City, attacked a security employee who intervened to stop them.
Police said the court has ordered all three individuals to be detained for 15 days pending further investigation. The injured airport employee’s condition has not yet been disclosed, though authorities confirmed the attack caused harm.
The case has alarmed local residents, highlighting concerns over rising aggression and lawlessness within the island. Police have reiterated that assaulting public employees or violating airport security zones will be dealt with severely under the law.
The investigation remains ongoing.
