Hussain Fahmy, the former Managing Director of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), has been elevated to a top position at the President’s Office, underscoring President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to placing experienced and loyal public servants at the helm of national policy implementation.
The President’s Office told today that Fahmy has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto—a ministerial-level role directly linked to executing the administration’s pledges and development vision. His appointment comes just a day after concluding his tenure as STELCO’s Managing Director, a post he had held since November 2023.
Fahmy’s career is marked by nearly three decades of service at STELCO, where he began as an Account Assistant Trainee and rose steadily through the ranks after completing his studies in the United Kingdom. Over 27 years, he played a central role in shaping the company’s financial and operational growth, culminating in his leadership of the national power provider under the current administration.
This leadership transition at STELCO now paves the way for Ahmed Shamah Rasheed, former CEO of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO), who has been appointed as the new Managing Director.
Fahmy’s move to the President’s Office is widely seen as recognition of his deep institutional knowledge and proven track record in public service. His new role will strengthen the government’s efforts to align manifesto commitments with real-time policy delivery, ensuring that the administration’s ambitious development agenda is carried out with precision and accountability.
With this strategic appointment, President Muizzu once again demonstrates his focus on merit-based leadership and continuity, reinforcing public trust in the government’s resolve to deliver on its promises to the Maldivian people.
