MACL Delivers on President Muizzu’s Commitment as Hulhumalé Phase 3 Land Reclamation Reaches 74%

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 12 hours ago

Land reclamation works at Hulhumalé Phase 03 have reached a major milestone, with 47 hectares reclaimed and overall project progress standing at 74.6%, according to an update released by Maldives Airports Company Limited.

MACL confirmed that reclamation activities are continuing at a steady pace, supported by two dredgers currently operating simultaneously on site. The use of multiple dredgers has significantly accelerated material placement and seabed shaping, ensuring that work remains on schedule despite challenging marine conditions.

Hulhumalé Phase 03 is one of the largest ongoing urban expansion initiatives in the Maldives, designed to address long-term housing demand, support population decentralisation, and strengthen climate-resilient land development. Once completed, the reclaimed area will pave the way for large-scale residential zones, public infrastructure, and essential services.

The project forms a key pillar of a national development pledge made by Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who has repeatedly emphasised the urgency of expanding habitable land and accelerating housing delivery for Maldivians. The steady progress of Phase 03 is being viewed by policymakers as a tangible outcome of that commitment.

MACL has reiterated that it remains focused on maintaining construction quality, environmental safeguards, and operational efficiency throughout the remaining stages of the project. With reclamation nearing three-quarters completion, attention is expected to gradually shift toward detailed land preparation and infrastructure planning in the months ahead.

Hulhumalé Phase 03 is widely regarded as a cornerstone project within the government’s broader urban development strategy, with its timely completion expected to play a critical role in easing housing pressures and supporting sustainable growth in the Greater Malé region.
