The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has issued a stern travel advisory ahead of anticipated high volumes of Hajj pilgrims heading through Velana International Airport (VIA).
The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) warned travelers arriving Hajj flights of peak congestion expected at Velana International Airport (VIA) on Friday, June 13, and Monday, June 16, between 1:30 PM and 4:00 PM.
MACL cautioned that vehicle drop-offs will be restricted exclusively to the International Terminal during those hours. It also forecast heavy congestion in all parking areas. To ease pressure, the company strongly urged travelers to use taxi services or the MTCC bus network instead of personal vehicles.
Furthermore, MACL flagged late-night arrival spikes on Saturday, June 14, and Tuesday, June 17, from 11:30 PM to 1:30 AM. Taxi operators and transport hubs should expect and prepare for those arrivals, the advisory noted.
These arrangements come in response to a surge in pilgrim traffic. MACL also highlighted ongoing roadworks around VIA and a general rise in travel linked to the Hajj pilgrimage and upcoming Eid holidays—issues that have already strained airport capacity in early June.
