Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has laid the foundation for a new Fitness and Recreation Center in HDh. Hanimaadhoo, furthering the government’s pledge to provide modern sports facilities across the country.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officiated the foundation-laying ceremony today as part of his tour of Haa Dhaalu Atoll. He was joined by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdullah Rafiu, MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, and Hanimaadhoo Council representative Abdul Sattar Hassan.
The Hanimaadhoo center is part of a historic agreement signed on August 18, 2025, between the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation and MACL to establish Fitness and Recreation Centers in 63 inhabited islands. Yesterday, President Muizzu also laid the foundation for a similar facility in HDh. Finey under the same agreement.
In addition to these centers, MACL has been entrusted with developing multi-sports complexes in AA. Ukulhas and AA. Rasdhoo, strengthening its role in delivering national sports infrastructure.
President Muizzu has pledged to ensure Fitness and Recreation Centers are established in every inhabited island by the end of 2026 — a goal his administration has positioned as central to youth empowerment, public health, and community development.
