The “Maldivians with Ceylon” telethon has been extended until 2.00 PM today, following an overwhelming wave of public support for Sri Lanka as the country battles severe flooding and widespread devastation caused by storm Ditwah. Public Service Media Deputy Managing Director Abdulla Yamin Rasheed has announced the extension tonight to allow more citizens and organisations to contribute.
The telethon, launched at 9.00 AM yesterday morning, was originally set to conclude at 1.00 AM. However, the scale of participation from state institutions, government owned companies, private businesses and the general public prompted organisers to extend the duration.
According to the latest update, total collections have now climbed to MVR 4,569,590.22 and USD 38,725.93, marking one of the strongest nationwide humanitarian responses seen in recent years. Donations continue to rise rapidly as Maldivians unite in support of Sri Lankan families affected by heavy rainfall, destruction and displacement.
The telethon encourages further contributions in both MVR and USD through QR payments, cash, cheques, bank transfers and collection boxes placed across Malé, Hulhumalé and Villimalé.

The extension ensures more time for individuals and institutions across the Maldives to take part in the “Maldivians with Ceylon” initiative and stand in solidarity with Sri Lanka during this critical period.
