Man arrested for possession of child pornography

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a case involving child pornography, authorities confirmed on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the Maldives Police Service, the suspect was taken into custody on February 13 following allegations that he had uploaded explicit images and videos involving children to a Google Drive account and stored similar material on multiple electronic devices.

The individual has been identified as Ali Najih Ahmed, 29, of Hulhevi, B. Kudarikilu.

Police said the court initially ordered the suspect to be remanded in custody for five days. That remand period has since been extended by an additional five days as investigations continue.

The case is being handled by the Police Family and Child Protection Unit, which is leading inquiries into the matter.

Authorities have not disclosed further details at this stage, citing the ongoing investigation.
