The Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) has bid farewell to its Chief Executive Officer, Aminath Suzan, who officially stepped down from her role after a tenure marked by innovation, inclusivity, and international recognition.
In a statement, MATATO and its Executive Board extended “deepest gratitude” to Suzan, describing her leadership as a defining era for the association. During her time at the helm, Suzan spearheaded transformative initiatives including the Welcome India Roadshow, the first Women’s Edition of the Maldives Travel Conference, and the launch of MATATO Talks, Gadha Chef, and the Ramadan Quiz. She also oversaw the unveiling of MATATO’s refreshed logo, revamped website, and other digital tools that expanded the association’s reach and visibility.
Under her guidance, MATATO earned global recognition, highlighted by the prestigious PATA Special Award, strengthening its position as a respected voice in the travel and tourism sector. The association praised Suzan for fostering a culture of “unity, empowerment, and innovation” that will continue to inspire long after her departure.
In her farewell message on Facebook, Suzan reflected warmly on her time with the organization:
“Thank you so much MATATO – PATA Maldives Chapter for the great opportunity. I enjoyed my time, and appreciate the guidance and support received by the entire Board of MATATO, especially the Association’s President Abdulla Ghiyas”.
Suzan explained that she has resigned from MATATO, to take a much-needed break and focus on personal projects. She signed off with her signature humor: “And don’t call me for coffee cos I’m still busy!”
As Suzan moves on to the next chapter, MATATO credited her with laying strong foundations for the association’s future. Her legacy, marked by passion, leadership, and commitment, is expected to remain a cornerstone for the Maldivian tourism industry in the years ahead.
