The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has announced the Tamweel Short Video Challenge, a nationwide contest designed to empower young Maldivians to creatively engage with topics of financial literacy, smart money management, and Islamic finance.
Inspiring the Next Generation of Financial Storytellers
Branded with the slogan “Shoot It. Share It. Shift the Narrative”, the competition invites individuals and teams of up to three members, aged 16 to 35, to produce 15–60 second original videos. Submissions must be optimized for social platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels, and Facebook, where participants will use the hashtag #FinlitFest2025 and tag MMA’s official accounts.
The initiative encourages youth to spark conversations on three key themes:
- Smart Money Habits — covering saving, budgeting, and digital payments.
- Financial Literacy for All — making financial education inclusive and accessible.
- Islamic Finance in Everyday Life — highlighting riba-free principles, halal investing, and ethical banking.
Submission Guidelines and Key Dates
Participants must upload their entries to social media and also email their video files via WeTransfer to [email protected] before 11:59 p.m. on October 15, 2025. Each submission must include personal details, the chosen theme, and a short caption.
Entries will be judged on creativity, clarity of message, technical quality, and social engagement. To ensure fairness, MMA reserves the right to disqualify submissions that breach guidelines, including copyright infringements, offensive content, or manipulated engagement metrics.
Recognition and Rewards
Winners will receive cash prizes of up to MVR 10,000, alongside the opportunity to showcase their work on MMA’s official social media channels and at the upcoming MMA Tamweel FinLit Fest 2025. The central bank also indicated that standout participants may gain future collaboration opportunities in national financial education campaigns.
Building a Culture of Financial Responsibility
The MMA stressed that the challenge reflects its broader commitment to cultivating a financially literate society. By leveraging short-form video — a medium deeply resonant with young audiences — the authority aims to make complex financial topics more relatable and to encourage responsible money habits across the Maldives.
