Phase 2 of the Malé North Side Boduthakurufaanu Road Development Project has reached 82 percent completion, marking a decisive stage in one of the capital’s most closely watched infrastructure upgrades.

According to the latest project update, major groundwork components have now been completed, including reclamation works, sheet piling, panel installation, dewatering provisions, stormwater catch pit installation, cable junction works, and the laying of wastewater and water main pipelines. Authorities confirmed that final concrete works for quay wall capping are scheduled to be completed today, closing out another critical structural phase.
Attention has now shifted to finishing works, with curb stone installation, settlement tank construction, and water and cable trench concrete works currently ongoing. Project teams are also preparing to move into the next stage, with road sub-base works and preparations for asphalt paving set to commence within the week.

The road development is being implemented by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and forms part of a broader urban renewal effort aimed at easing congestion and improving mobility in Malé City.
The project is a key infrastructure pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, who has repeatedly emphasised the importance of delivering modern, pedestrian-friendly and flood-resilient roads in the capital. The accelerated pace of Phase 2 reflects the administration’s push to complete the segment before Ramadan, in line with the President’s public commitment.
Once completed, the upgraded corridor is expected to significantly enhance accessibility, reduce traffic bottlenecks, and strengthen stormwater management, delivering safer and more resilient road infrastructure for residents and commuters alike.
