The Boduthakurufaanu North Side Road Development Project is moving forward at remarkable speed, with Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) announcing new progress on Segment 1.
MTCC confirmed today that the pre-cast panel installation for Segment 1 has been successfully completed. Quay wall capping concrete works are also underway, with 33% of the work already finished, while reinforcement on the remaining sections of the quay wall capping continues in parallel.

The project, which will reshape one of Malé’s busiest road networks, aims to deliver wider, pedestrian-friendly streets that ease traffic congestion and integrate a modern stormwater drainage system to reduce flooding risks during heavy rainfall. Once completed, the development will significantly strengthen the capital’s resilience and improve daily mobility for residents and commuters.
Steady milestones so far
- Early September 2025 – MTCC announced the completion of 72 meters of sheet piling along Segment 1 and finalized the demolition of the quay wall capping.
- Late September 2025 – The company confirmed 132 meters of sheet piling completed, alongside anchoring and reclamation works for road extension and a new quay wall.
- Today, 28 September 2025 – MTCC reports full completion of pre-cast panel installation, 33% progress on quay wall capping concrete works, and reinforcement activities underway.
These successive achievements highlight the project’s rapid pace, positioning it as a transformative upgrade to Malé City’s urban infrastructure.
