In a powerful demonstration of regional solidarity and enduring friendship, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka held official bilateral talks today at the President’s Office in Malé, marking a pivotal moment in the longstanding partnership between the Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The discussions, held during President Disanayaka’s ongoing state visit, were led by both Heads of State and centred on deepening cooperation across multiple sectors vital to national development and regional stability.
President Muizzu warmly acknowledged the historic and fraternal bond between the Maldives and Sri Lanka—relations that span over five decades and are rooted in mutual respect, shared values, and geographic proximity. He underscored the significant contribution of the Sri Lankan workforce to Maldivian society, particularly in sectors such as education, construction, and health.
Both leaders reaffirmed their joint commitment to strengthening collaboration in priority areas including education and capacity building, climate resilience, sustainable fisheries, agriculture and food security, maritime safety, and air connectivity. Youth empowerment and sports development also featured prominently in the talks, reflecting a shared vision for nurturing the next generation of leaders in both nations.
