Leading the Maldivian delegation, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdulla Khaleel engaged with Indian counterparts to assess progress across various sectors, including transport, connectivity, agriculture, fisheries, trade, health, and defense cooperation. The meeting also emphasized capacity building, training, and strengthening people-to-people linkages.
Dr. Khaleel’s visit marks his third trip to India this year, reflecting the intensified high-level exchanges between the two nations. During his stay, he is also scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, to further reinforce diplomatic ties.
The Maldivian delegation comprises senior officials from key ministries, including Foreign Affairs, Defense, Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, Economic Development and Trade, Finance and Planning, and Homeland Security and Technology.
This meeting follows the inaugural HLCG session held in Malé on January 29, 2025, which laid the groundwork for structured discussions on bilateral cooperation. The ongoing dialogue underscores the commitment of both nations to foster a robust partnership, ensuring regional stability and mutual growth.
The India-Maldives Vision Document outlines collaborative efforts to enhance air and maritime connectivity, facilitate trade, and promote tourism. It also emphasizes the importance of defense and security cooperation, aiming to address common challenges in the Indian Ocean region.
As both countries navigate the complexities of regional dynamics, the HLCG serves as a pivotal platform to align strategic interests and reinforce the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and India.
