First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed has underscored that the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of citizens forms the foundation of national development, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s healthcare system.

She delivered these remarks this evening at the ceremony marking the 43rd anniversary of Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, held at Kulhudhuffushi Ports Limited. Addressing the gathering, the First Lady stressed the importance of accessible, high-quality healthcare for the people of Kulhudhuffushi City and the wider region.
Highlighting the transformative role of technology in the health sector, Madam Sajidha described President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visionary “Maldives 2.0” initiative as a pivotal step towards modernising healthcare delivery nationwide. She expressed confidence that such efforts would elevate healthcare standards and ensure equitable access across the archipelago.
As part of the celebrations, several major healthcare services were inaugurated at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital. The First Lady officially launched the telemedicine service and the endometriosis clinic, marking significant milestones in specialised and remote care. Additionally, the Director General of Health Services, Dr Ahmed Ashraf, inaugurated a new clinic dedicated to non-communicable diseases (NCDs), addressing the growing need for chronic disease management in the Maldives.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of commemorative plaques to individuals and organisations that have played pivotal roles in the hospital’s development, as well as tributes to retired staff members. Furthermore, awards recognising outstanding performance and long service — including milestones of 10, 20, and 30 years — were presented by the First Lady, reflecting the government’s appreciation of healthcare workers’ dedication.
Earlier in the day, the First Lady arrived in Kulhudhuffushi City, where she toured the regional hospital, inspected its facilities, and engaged directly with healthcare staff, further demonstrating her commitment to supporting frontline medical services.
