Ooredoo Fintech has announced a temporary humanitarian initiative offering free international money transfers through mFaisaa to several countries impacted by the recent cyclone across the region.
The initiative, active from 1–31 December 2025, allows customers to send funds without transfer fees to Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand—countries where families and communities continue to recover from severe storm-related damage.
Digital Transfers Within Minutes
The offer applies to mFaisaa’s international money remittance (IMR) service, provided in partnership with MoneyGram, enabling users to send money abroad directly from their mobile phones within minutes.
Key features include:
-
Zero transfer fees for cyclone-affected destinations
-
Transfer limits of up to USD 10,000 per day
-
A fully digital process requiring no paperwork or in-person visits
-
Real-time tracking via the mFaisaa mobile app
Customers simply top-up their mFaisaa wallet, enter recipient details, and complete the transfer digitally with instant confirmation.
“Technology Should Serve a Purpose,” Says CEO
Commenting on the initiative, Khalid Al-Hamadi, CEO and Managing Director of Ooredoo Maldives, said the move reflects the company’s responsibility toward neighbouring communities.
“Many Maldivians have families and loved ones in countries affected by the cyclone. By removing transfer fees and enabling fast, secure remittances, we hope to make it easier for people to help those most in need,” he said.
“Our goal is to use technology meaningfully — to connect people, strengthen communities, and provide support when it’s needed most.”
Commitment to Social Impact
Ooredoo stated that the initiative reinforces its broader mission to expand financial inclusion and contribute to regional resilience through accessible digital services.
