Over 1,100 Runners Join Landmark Dhiraagu Fuvahmulah Run 2025

Fuvahmulah City made history on Friday, May 2, 2025, as it hosted the Dhiraagu Fuvahmulah Run—the first-ever edition of the Maldives’ premier running event to take place outside the capital region. Organized in collaboration with the Fuvahmulah City Council, the Women’s Development Committee, and the Athletics Association of Maldives, the event attracted 1,112 participants from across the country.

The race featured three categories: 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon, with runners competing on a World Athletics-certified course that showcased Fuvahmulah’s lush landscapes and unique biosphere. A total prize pool of MVR 232,000 was awarded to top finishers across various divisions.

  1. Champion: Nizmeena Ahmed
  2. Runner-up: Anan Ahmed Rasheed
  3. 2nd Runner-up: Aminath Naufa Rasheed

5K Open – Male

  1. Champion: Hussain Fazeel
  2. Runner-up: Yoosuf Ibrahim
  3. 2nd Runner-up: Kiran Singh Bogati

5K Open – Female

  1. Champion: Nizmeena Ahmed
  2. Runner-up: Fathimath Hasna
  3. 2nd Runner-up: Husna Mohamed

5K School Above 13 – Male

  1. Champion: Ahmed Roony Mohamed
  2. Runner-up: Ahmed Joodh Mohamed
  3. 2nd Runner-up: Mohamed Shuaib Abdulla

5K School Above 13 – Female

  1. Champion: Dhua Ahmed Waseem
  2. Runner-up: Neem Ibrahim Ahsan
  3. 2nd Runner-up: Aishath Amshee Ahmed

5K School Under 13 – Male

  1. Champion: Ahil Ibrahim Moosa
  2. Runner-up: Yoosuf Akil Amir
  3. 2nd Runner-up: Mohamed Aal Hassan

5K School Under 13 – Female

  1. Champion: Aminath Raoom Ahmed Habeeb
  2. Runner-up: Mariyam Yueen Abdulla
  3. 2nd Runner-up: Aminath Shaayan

The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race is the nation’s only international run, officially listed in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) World Running Calendar. By bringing the event to Fuvahmulah, Dhiraagu aims to promote healthy lifestyles, support local tourism, and highlight the island’s potential as a unique running destination.

Participants praised the scenic route and the community’s warm hospitality, marking the event as a significant milestone in the Maldives’ sporting calendar.
