The Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has decided to recommend the suspension of multiple senior police officials, including Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, following a review of the controversial Blues Housing Project audit.
The decision came during a closed-door committee meeting held today to discuss the report compiled by a sub-committee that examined the police housing project’s special audit. The project was initiated to provide housing for police officers, but auditors found major procedural and compliance concerns.
Committee members voted unanimously to make the session confidential. The motion was proposed by Funadhoo MP Mohamed Mamdhooh from the PNC, who cited national security implications. Guraidhoo MP Hanaan Mohamed Rasheed seconded the proposal, leading to an immediate vote in favor of confidentiality.
Information shared by parliamentary inside sources indicates that the committee reached a decision to urge Parliament to suspend seven senior officers accused of breaching professional standards during the project’s oversight and execution.
The officers named in the recommendation are:
- Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen
- Assistant Commissioner Moosa Ali
- Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Abdulla Rahman
- Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Rasheed
- Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Basheer
- Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Dhawood
- Superintendent Ismail Shameem Adam
The Public Accounts Committee is expected to formally submit its recommendation to the President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has and full Parliament, paving the way for legislative action and further accountability.
