PNC Launches Door-to-Door Campaign in Malé Ahead of Council Elections

By Hussain Shinan Published January 22, 2026

The People’s National Congress (PNC) has officially begun its door-to-door campaign in the Malé area as part of preparations for the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections, scheduled for April 4.

The campaign was launched at an event held at the PNC headquarters in Malé, attended by several Cabinet ministers, senior party leaders, and election candidates. The initiative marks a key phase of the party’s election strategy, focusing on direct engagement with voters across the capital.

As part of its election preparations, PNC has expanded its organisational presence in the Malé region. The party recently opened a four-storey official office in Malé, which was inaugurated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. Additional campaign offices have also been established in Vilimale’ and Hulhumalé, strengthening the party’s outreach ahead of the polls.

Addressing the launch ceremony, PNC Parliamentary Group Leader and campaign manager Ibrahim Falah urged candidates to actively take part in door-to-door campaigning across the country. He said the current administration has implemented decentralisation more comprehensively than previous governments, describing President Muizzu as a leader who has worked closely with communities nationwide.

Falah noted that candidates have been instructed by the President to engage directly with residents, listen to their concerns, and present policy proposals at the household level. He added that feedback gathered during the campaign would be channelled through government mechanisms to address issues raised by the public.

Under the campaign, candidates will visit homes across all neighbourhoods of Malé, as well as Hulhumalé, to explain their policies, answer questions, and gather community input. The party said the approach is intended to strengthen voter connection and accountability ahead of election day.

The Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections will see 681 councillors elected to local councils and 681 members elected to women’s development committees nationwide.
