PNC names Majority Leader Ibrahim Falah as campaign chief for 2026 local council and WDC elections

By Ahmed Ashraf Published 5 hours ago

The People’s National Congress has placed parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Falah at the forefront of its preparations for next year’s local council and Women’s Development Committee elections, appointing him as the official campaign manager for both contests scheduled for March 28, 2026.

The decision, announced by the party yesterday, positions Falah at the center of PNC’s nationwide mobilisation efforts. His role as Majority Leader of the People’s Majlis and representative for Inguraidhoo solidifies his influence across both Parliament and the party’s grassroots base, making him a strategic choice to lead what the PNC views as a decisive election cycle.

Despite confirming the leadership of the campaign, the party has not yet finalised its candidate slate for either the council polls or the WDC races. Senior officials state that internal assessments and constituency level consultations are ongoing to ensure that the party fields the strongest possible representatives.

Within the PNC, Falah is widely seen as one of the most dynamic and politically assertive figures in the current leadership tier. His growing presence across parliamentary debates and national political discourse has strengthened his standing as a key architect of the party’s electoral strategy.

As preparations accelerate, the PNC is expected to activate island level campaign structures in the weeks ahead, signalling an early start to what is likely to be one of the most competitive local elections in recent years.
