In a decisive move to combat online harassment, the Maldives Police Service has successfully shut down two Instagram accounts that were being used to bully and intimidate students from Muhyiddin School and Jamaluddin School.
The operation was carried out by the Cyber Crime Centre, which identified the individuals behind the anonymous accounts. According to police, these accounts had been actively targeting students, spreading harmful content, and creating a hostile online environment that threatened students’ mental well-being.
Police emphasized that cyberbullying, especially against minors, is a serious offense and warned that strict legal action would be taken against those responsible. While the identities of the individuals have not yet been publicly disclosed, police confirmed that further investigations are ongoing and that those involved will be held accountable.
This latest crackdown highlights the growing efforts by Maldivian law enforcement to ensure safer online spaces, particularly for young people. Parents and educators have widely welcomed the swift action, urging continued vigilance and stronger digital literacy programs to protect students from similar threats in the future.
