Police investigate allegations of child abuse involving Nepalese nanny

By Ahmed Ashraf Published January 20, 2025

The police have initiated an investigation concerning allegations of physical abuse against a three-year-old boy by a foreign domestic worker in a residence in Male’ City. The incident was reported to authorities on Sunday.

In an exclusive interview with The Standard, the child’s mother revealed that she has provided the police with video evidence supporting her claims. Despite this, the domestic worker has not been arrested and remains in the same household under the mother’s supervision. The video reportedly shows the child being punched in the face and pinched, leaving visible nail marks.

According to police statements, the suspect is identified as a Nepalese woman employed as a domestic worker. On Monday afternoon, the police confirmed their ongoing investigation into the matter but have yet to detain anyone in connection with the case.
