The Maldives Police Service has raised alarm over an increasing number of underage boys gathering in areas identified as crime-prone, warning of heightened risks to children’s safety and wellbeing.
According to police data collected through routine patrols, groups of male minors under 18 are frequently seen in environments where illegal activities take place. Police cautioned that such exposure makes children vulnerable to grooming, substance abuse, illegal driving, family conflicts leading to runaway cases, and other unsafe behaviors.
In a statement, police urged parents and guardians to remain alert, monitor the places their children frequent, and actively engage them in conversations about safety and responsible conduct. The police further assured that targeted spot checks and daily patrols will continue across high-risk areas, with plans to strengthen collaboration with families, schools, and state agencies to safeguard children.
“Protecting children is a shared responsibility” the statement stressed, calling on parents, educators, and community leaders to work together to nurture responsible and well-mannered youth.
